Building a Brighter Future: Nexicom’s Fibre Internet Revolutionizes Hiawatha First Nation

Nexicom Inc. proudly announces the successful completion of its fibre optic network expansion in Hiawatha First Nation, marking a significant leap in connectivity for the community. Completed on March 31, 2023, the project was made possible through a partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure as part of the Improving Connectivity for Ontario (ICON) program.

Nexicom’s advanced fibre network has enabled connection to 355 homes and over 73% of these homes are using the service in the Hiawatha area, providing residents and businesses with fast and reliable high-speed fibre internet. Supported by an investment from the Ontario government of over $409,000, Nexicom has contributed over $1,800,000 to provide dependable, sustainable, and affordable high-speed fibre internet to the Hiawatha First Nation Reservation.

“Ontarians, especially those living and working in rural communities, depend on high-speed internet to access online services for work and education, as well as for staying connected with friends and loved ones,” said Kinga Surma, Ontario Minister of Infrastructure. “Our government is proud to support projects like Nexicom’s fibre optic network expansion that will enable us to connect Ontario while also bringing us closer to fulfilling our goal of ensuring high-speed internet access for every community by the end of 2025.”

With internet speeds soaring up to 1 Gig, this groundbreaking development ushers in a new era of possibilities for rural Ontarians. Residents and business owners can now access digital television, internet and telephone services that were previously unimaginable.

Clayton Zekelman, the owner of Nexicom, emphasizes the company’s commitment to addressing the pressing need for reliable and affordable high-speed internet in traditional rural communities. Zekelman states, “We understand that home and business owners in traditional rural communities need reliable and affordable high-speed internet now more than ever, and we are proud to be the company that answers the call.”

Nexicom will be closed on July 1st
